Gracious Grove Sew Along -- Week 10
Whoooo Hooo! We are on the final block! And this time, there’s only one to make.
Block Number 9 is the center block of the quilt. You know all the techniques for the pieces on this block. You can review the applique method videos on the previous posts if you need to.
One thing you may be wondering about is the bias tape creating the circle—how do you end it? Usually, when I get to the end of my bias tape, I cover the raw edge with an applique piece —like a leaf or flower. But on this block, the end of the bias is exposed. So just turn under the raw edge about 1/4” and sew it in place when you sew the sides. I like to fold it back on a diagonal, so it is not too bulky. Here’s a closeup that shows how my bias tape circle ended.
This block looks so pretty after it is quilted, don’t you think? It has so much movement and dimension that give the pieced blocks in the quilt so much more interest.
I love wreath blocks! For that matter, I love wreaths! I was shocked as I was packing up our house for our last move to find soooo many wreaths. I didn’t know I owned that many—but apparently, I’m a fan. I guess I am a wreath collector. I would show you some pictures, but they are all still in storage!! HA HA HA
For now, the quilted wreath will have to suffice.
Ok now—get going on this last block! Next week we will be putting it all together!!!
