Maker Paper

Maker Paper

As you probably know by now I LOVE to apply Appliqué pieces to my quilts. Appliqué adds a certain dimension and character to a quilt that you simply cannot create by piecing. If you are new to quilting see below for some examples of Appliqué on my quilts.

See all the leaves and vines and flowers? Those are all Appliqué pieces. I love it so much that I have made a set of products that help make Appliqué SO MUCH EASIER! Click HERE to watch a tutorial about how to Appliqué the Jillily Way using my new notions.

For this post though I want to focus on just one of the new products and that is Maker Paper.

Maker Paper is a game changer for tracing and creating your own Appliqué pieces. Maker Paper is similar to Freezer paper in that it has a plastic coating on one side but it is actually 3 times thicker than Freezer Paper! I designed it specifically to be thick enough to make sturdy template pieces that won’t bend or wrinkle while also being thin enough that you can see through it to do your tracing. When ironed, the Maker Paper does not bubble or wrinkle (when using your iron without steam of course) and the heat makes a temporary bond between the fabric and paper. When you are finished cutting and making your template, the Maker Paper peels away easily to be reused in future projects!

I demonstrate this entire process in a video tutorial HERE if you want to see it in action!

Maker Paper is designed for Appliqué but it is also perfect for ink transfers! It is sized to fit directly into your at home printer where you can print any design onto the paper and then transfer it to fabric, wood, or whatever you like! Make sure to print on the shiny side of the Maker Paper and press evenly and thoroughly so the ink design comes out good.

This same method can be applied to embroidery projects! You can print the design on your Maker Paper, transfer it to fabric, and use that as a guide for your embroidery and stitching!

Maker Paper is a sturdy and diverse product to add to your sewing supplies. I must warn you though, once you use it you won’t want to go back!
