Let's Talk Appliqué!
Quilting is an art form and just like traditional art with its different forms (sketching, painting, sculpture, etc) quilting can be done in many styles! There is traditional piecing, foundation and English paper piecing, and, my personal favorite, Appliqué; to name a few.
If you have been following me for a while then you probably know that Appliqué is a passion of mine. I love how Appliqué can add elements to a quilt that cannot be achieved with traditional piecing. I think Appliqué adds so much interest to a quilt!
But, like all new skills, learning Appliqué can feel daunting! Especially when you focus on complicated designs that seem out of reach. In this post I am going to show you that Appliqué is for everyone with some helpful tools, tutorials, and patterns!
First of all, the tools: After years and years of designing fabric, quilting, and doing Applique, I have gone through trial and error with tools so that you don’t have to! I made a list of pain points and elements I knew could be better and when I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for in the current market I made my own!

I wanted to start with introducing my tools so that you know what is being used in my tutorials! I have several tutorials that will teach you some Appliqué basics and how to use my tools.
This first tutorial shows you how to Appliqué the Jillily Way! This will walk you through how to make some simple Appliqué shapes:
After you prepare you Appliqué shapes you are ready to attach them to your quilt! You can attach them with two methods: machine sewn, or by hand. Luckily- I have a tutorial for both!
With the helpful information about Appliqué method and proper tools from the above videos you will be ready to dive in! I have a lot of beautiful Appliqué patterns but today I have rounded up just a few.
First, Sunday Best: This is a charming little table runner that finishes at 24”x 44”.
